S.M.A.R.T.
Dolphins are S.M.A.R.T.
Students will be monitored for their SMART Behavior: Safe, Motivated, Academic, Respectful, Team players. Students who receive SMART cards will put their names in for a weekly drawing of various school supplies and rewards. They can also save them for trimester award parties. We hope you will support our school’s positive environment and encourage your student to earn these rewards.
Authors' Tea
One student from each class is invited to attend the Guin Foss Authors' Tea Celebration.
Winners are selected for excellence in writing, growth in format, style and ideas based on their classroom writing assignments.
Authors' Tea Celebrations take place in the Multipurpose Room with the Principal where students enjoy a "tea" party while they listen to one another read their winning writing assignments aloud. Parents are also invited to attend.
In recognition for outstanding writing, students receive an award certificate as well as a booklet containing all of the winning writing assignments.
Student Council
PRESIDENT: The President will preside over all Student Council meetings, serve as a leader of Guin Foss School, assist Mr. Hernandez at flag ceremonies, and head all activities sponsored by the Student Council. A 5th grader must represent this office.

VICE PRESIDENT: The Vice President will assume the responsibilities of the President in case of absence or removal from the office. This officer will attend all Student Council meetings, assist Mr. Hernandez at flag ceremonies, and chair any sub committees. The Vice President position can only be represented by a 4th or 5th grader.

SECRETARY: The Secretary takes the roll and minutes for each Student Council meeting. They will also be responsible for writing the speeches for advertisements at the Flag Ceremonies. This officer will attend all Student Council meetings, assist Mr. Hernandez at flag ceremonies, and is responsible for all of the correspondence for Student Council. A 4th or 5th grader can represent this position.

TREASURER: The Treasurer is responsible for all financial matters involving Student Council. This officer counts and reports all monies to the student council for a financial statement for each month. They must be present at all student council fundraising sales. The Treasurer will attend all Student Council meetings and assist Mr. Hernandez at flag ceremonies. This position can only be represented by a 4th or 5th grader.

COMMUNITY SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE: The Community Service Representative will be responsible for assisting in the development of multiple community service projects for student council and school-wide participation. They will work with Mr. Hernandez to advertise such projects and with the collection and delivery process. This position can only be represented by a 4th or 5th grader.

SPIRIT CHAIR: The Spirit Chair helps decide upon Guin Foss School Pride days and determines if prizes will be given for dress-up days. They assist in the judging of Spirit Days and school-wide contests as necessary. They help create posters/fliers, assists Mr. Hernandez at flag ceremonies, and attends all Student Council Meetings. This office is open to a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader (3 positions available).

MEMBER-AT-LARGE: The Member at Large assists in all Student Council activities and is basically in training for future leadership roles at Guin Foss. This office is open to 3rd graders only (3 positions). Members will also assist with fundraising and holiday gram sales. They will also assist with creating posters and helping out other student council members with advertising at Friday Flag ceremonies.
